Random weapons, from a box

THE BOX

An 80s game-show crate, a slot machine, a hydraulic lid and a bribe slot. Anything can come out of it. Every weapon has its own character, its own special move and its own way to lose.

THE BOX: an orange crate with a crown sign, marquee bulbs, a three-reel slot window, an INSERT BRIBE slot and League stickers

Anatomy of a box

  1. The hydraulic lid. It opens with a puff of steam as the weapon rises. Dramatic. Slightly leaky.
  2. The marquee bulbs. They flash during the draw, as any respectable prize should.
  3. The reel. Three windows spin and stop on your weapon. The odds are fair, according to the League.
  4. INSERT BRIBE. Knock the secret rhythm, slip the hand some cash, pick your weapon.
  5. Property of the League. Stickers, warning tape and a serial number, so nobody steals it. Nobody wants to.
  6. Inspected by: nobody. It says so right on the label. Refreshing honesty.
Your turn

Pull the lever

In a real bout both puppets draw, one after the other, and both see the result. Here it's just you. Or insert a bribe and choose.

Feeling lucky?

Seven weapons inside. One of them is a pistol. Good luck.

The official catalogue

What's in the box

Every weapon is registered with the League, tagged and numbered. Every weapon can be upgraded, in looks and in performance.

A worn wooden baseball bat with a League sticker and a REGISTERED WEAPON tag
The balanced one

Baseball Bat

The reference weapon: nimble, medium-low damage, a three-hit combo and a charged swing that staggers. The charged swing can also hit a bottle lying on the floor and send it flying into your opponent's face like a ball.

Weirdness

Flourish A twirl, like a pro. Almost.

A short broadsword with a gold hilt, a red jewel and a price tag
The solid choice

Sword

Halfway between the bat and the chainsaw, in damage and in weight. For pilots who want more power without giving up too much mobility. It sparkles when raised. Nobody at the League can explain why.

Weirdness

Flourish It sparkles. That's it. That's the flourish.

A pink League chainsaw with a serial number and a REGISTERED WEAPON tag
The heavy one

Chainsaw

Very slow to swing and to carry: you walk at 70% speed and turn with effort. When it lands, though, it is devastating. The charged thrust has super armor: the wielder takes hits without flinching and breaks straight through a bat's flurry. Both hands are busy, so the punch becomes a kick.

Damage
Speed
Weirdness

Counter It revs with smoke and noise before the thrust. Dodge, then punish the slowness.

A heavy steel chain with a taped grip and a chrome weight
The strangler

Chain

Thrown, it barely does anything. But if it wraps around the neck and you hold on, it strangles and drains Breath, and Breath at zero means hit points melting away. The victim has to fight free with repeated taps or swipes.

Speed
Weirdness

Counter Mash to break free before your Breath runs out.

A red rubber plunger with a wooden handle
The sneaky one

Plunger

It hits like a bat, but mostly pushes, with a "boing". Its real weapon is the Suction: stick it on the opponent's nose and mouth and it stays there, suffocating them. The victim slows down, cannot attack or dodge, and must mash to rip it off, with a comic "plop" that still costs 10% of max HP.

Meanwhile you are bare-handed, and by League rules ("registered weapons") only you can pick the plunger back up. Against a panting opponent, the Suction lands faster and easier.

Counter Keep your stamina up and your mouth shut. Literally.

A soft, bendy foam cylinder in lime green and yellow with a THE TOY tag
The mind game

The Toy

A soft cylinder with two rounded ends that bends when it hits. More damage than the plunger, less than the bat. Push it into an open mouth, that is, against a tired opponent who is panting, and it goes down the throat and suffocates, draining Breath until they pull it out.

No weapon rewards reading your opponent's body and managing stamina more.

Weirdness

Counter Don't pant in front of it. Pull it out in time.

A chunky magenta and chrome pistol with a POINT AWAY FROM FACE sticker The League Mobility Unit, a gaudy sponsored wheelchair with a siren
The self-own

Pistol

Whoever draws it accidentally shoots themselves, and spends the rest of the bout in the League Mobility Unit, a sponsored, gold-trimmed tech chair with a siren on top. Rolling takes both hands, so you can't shoot while moving. Turning on the spot takes one, and the other fires. Standing still, the firing arc is narrow. Changing level means finding a ramp.

Ranged shots hurt, a lot. Limited ammo and a slow reload keep it honest.

Counter Stay out of the firing arc and use height: the chair hates stairs.

A meat puppet with clenched fists
Always in stock

Punches

A dedicated button, with or without a weapon. Fast, cheap in stamina, low in damage, and they never interrupt an enemy attack, so mashing them against a chainsaw ends badly. Perfect for close-range filler, while you go fetch your plunger, or to finish off someone who's almost KO.

Not from the box

Arena objects

On top of the weapon you drew, every arena is full of things to grab, throw, hide behind or blow up.

Bottles and junk

Throw them with aim assist, or hit them with the bat for a home run.

Shields

Pick up a tray, a sign or a cooler lid and hide behind it.

Explosive tanks

Any hit lights a short fuse. They set each other off, in chains.

Ramps and heights

High ground, escape routes and the only way up for a wheelchair.
